The Accademia Gallery is another important museum in Florence. Here you can find many sculptures by Michelangelo and a prestigious collection of works made by some Florentine painters between the XIIIth and the XIXth century. Among these works it is important to quote the Depositions by Filippino Lippi and by Perugino, both these two paintings can be seen in the first room.
In the section dedicated to Michelangelo Buonarroti and called Gallery of the Michelangelo Works, there are: the San Matteo, four pieces of the famous six “Prisons”, the allegorical statues for the Pope Giulio II grave representing the divine soul imprisoned in the worldly body (the other two ones are at the Louvre), the Pietà of Palestrina (one of the last works of this artist) and finally the famous David that was carved by Michelangelo between the 1501 and the 1504 using a marble block refused by all the other sculptors who considered it unsuitable because of its disharmonic dimensions.
