The Fountain of Trevi

From the architectonical point of view the Fountain of Trevi has visible baroque and Bernini’s influences. At its centre there is an arch characterized by the coat of arms of Clemente XII. On the rocky base placed under the central arch there is the statue of Ocean placed on a shell-shaped cart drawn by two sea horses guided by Tritons.

Under the central group there are rocks and petrified vegetation that are placed on the basis of the Poli Palace. Beside the central niche you can admire two couples of Corinthian columns that contains two statues representing well-being and prosperity that are the benefits produced by the pure water. The bas-relieves of this artistic work represent the project’s approval by Agrippa and the legend of the virgin who, according to the tradition, indicated the source to the Roman soldiers. The list of artists that contributed to the construction of this fountain is very long: if the general idea of this work belongs to Niccolò Salvi, all the single parts of this monument, in fact, were created by different artists.
