“Pentolaccia” is the typical Italian play, spread anywhere in our regions and thanks its popularity has been able to cross borders and establish itself in Spain where it has even given the name of domingo de piñata to the first Sunday of Lent . Indeed, the Pinata, in the English term, takes place in the first Sunday of Lent, called also Sunday of Carnevalicchio, that as occurs in the Ambrosian Carnival, continues until Saturday after Shrove Tuesday, and represents the typical play of “pignata“. This last is the typical clay pot once used to cook beans and make them more tasty, which for the occasion is filled with delicacies and hung in the center of the room between the frenzy of children and teenagers. They must break it for tasting these delicacies that fall on their heads like manna from heaven. This game has surely a symbolic significance. It could represent an invitation, after the last revelry of confectionery contained in the clay pot, to refrain from sin throat; or it could be a sign of good omen, as it was for primitive peoples, which broke glasses, vases, etc..
