The Milanese Carnival follows the Ambrosian Rite that is the liturgical calendar brought by St. Ambrogio during the IV century. This particular rite differs from the Roman one and, for this reason, in Milan the carnival celebrations don’t end on the Shrove Tuesday but they last until the Saturday before the first Sunday of Lent.

So, while all the rest of Italy has already finished celebrating, the carnival arrives in Milan: many music, dance and historical shows take place in the whole urban centre following the precise theme that every year is at the basis of this carnival.

This year,  the 2009 Ambrosian Carnival was focused on the theme titled “The city of future”: it was obviously connected to the Expo 2015 that will take place in Milan and to the centenary of Futurism.
