Well known for its beaches and its night clubs, Rimini is also a city full of history and culture.
Its historical centre, in fact, is characterized by the presence of several monuments, churches and various finds that are still intact and very suggestive. The origins of this city are very ancient but surely its date of birth dates back to the Roman empire’s period. The importance that characterized Rimini during this historical period is demonstrated by the several constructions wished by the two famous Roman emperors August and Adriano who especially loved this place.
To start visiting Rimini you can begin from admiring the ancient Bridge of Tiberio, built for want of Augusto. This bridge shows still now all its charming structure characterized by five round arches made up by stones from Istria. The important Corso d’Augusto begins exactly from this monument , and represents the long pedestrian main street that continues to be the Rimini’s lively centre with its cafés, shops and historical buildings. Going through the Corso d’augusto you will arrive to the big Piazza TreMartiri (TreMartiri Square), where current excavations have discovered a part of the ancient pavement of the Roman Forum.
Going ahead you will find the beautiful Piazza Cavour (Cavour Square) where there was the fish and vegetable market during the Medieval Age.

In this square you can admire this three precious historical palaces: Palazzo dell’Arengo, Palazzo Garampi, and Palazzo del Podestà. Here there is also the Theatre Galli that dates back to 1857 and the wonderful Fontana della Pigna, built in 1543 by Giovanni da Carrara.

At the end of the Corso d’Augusto you will arrive to the big Arch of Augusto, other beautiful Roman construction.
Visiting Rimini you must also admire the Roman Amphitheatre that was built to host the spectacles of gladiators. This construction had an elliptical shape and its area dimensions were slightly inferior than the more famous Coliseum in Rome. After its restore, the Amphitheatre’s structure is now used to host spectacles and events and to make guided visits.
Among the most famous monuments in Rimini there is the Tempio Malatestiano ( the Malatestiano Temple) that is a real Renaissance masterpiece and a symbol of this city. Still now it is possible to admire the duplicity of this construction where its façade and its marble elements contrast with the poor cover made up by beams. Here you can find two jewels of the Italian art: the first valuable version of the Crucifx by Giotto, placed on the altar, and the fresco by Piero della Francesca.

Another important place that should be visited is Castel Sigismondo (Sigismondo Castle) that was built in order to be both a palace and a fortress representing the strength and the power of its owner: Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. Nowadays this construction, whose central nucleus is the only thing that has survived, is used to host important international exhibitions.
Finally, you can also admire the Gothic-Romanic Church of Sant’Agostino that was built during the XIII century and restored in 1720. Here there are other wonderful frescos made by several Italian artists.
But, as it has been initially said, Rimini is also well known for its beaches: 40 Km of clear and very fine sand. Bellaria, Igea Marina, Cattolica, Misano Adriatico, Riccione and Rimini are the most famous Italian cost cities in Europe also thanks to the many special services offered to clients. In these safety and very overseen beaches, in fact, you can find parasols and deckchairs, huts and showers, cafés and restaurants, whirlpool baths and libraries.
Also all the sport addicts can enjoy their stay in these beaches that are now provided with beach tennis, beach soccer and beach volley courts. It is also possible to play bowling, frisbee and basket and quite everywhere there are now gyms near the see for the body building addicts or for those who simply wish to remain in good form also during the summer holidays.
You can also have great fun in water thanks to the presence of canoes, windsurf tables, water motorcycle and the kite surfing equipment.

Rimini Beaches
You can even find nice technological novelties like the deckchairs that can be opened with a remote control and the massage armchairs. Children can have fun in the different game rooms created especially for them. During the last years there are some ecological life guards who apply the energy saving and the wastes separate collection.
From June to August it is possible for tourists to spend their time in one of the several fitness beaches that are spread throughout the cost. Here you will find relax areas where you can book aesthetic treatments for your body such as relaxing customized massages.
After a long stay on the beach, older and younger tourists can have a great fun in the numerous and famous night clubs of Rimini where you can also taste the original “Piadina Romagnola“.
Road and Highway Connections
Arriving from the Northern part of Italy, you should going through the highway A14 Bologna – Rimini that is connected to the major European highways.
Arriving form the Southern part of Italy you should use the highways A1 and A14. There is also the highway E45 that connects Cesena to Rome.
The possible exits are: Rimini North and Rimini South.

It is also easy to reach Rimini by train thanks to the two lines Milan-Bari and Ancona-Bologna.
