The compound of the Verona’s cathedral testifies the development of Christianity in this city throughout time: here it is possible to see, in fact, different architectonical influences belonging to the paleochristian, the medieval, the Romanesque and the gothic style.

The Verona Cathedral
This is a very rich compound made up by the cathedral, by the square, by the library called “Biblioteca Capitolare”, by the Canonici’ s cloister, by the House of Bishops, and by the two Churches of S. Elena and of S. Giovanni in Fonte.
Visiting this Romanesque cathedral you can admire its façade, its internal door surmounted by a wonderful watch, the big columns made up by tufa stone, fire and by white and rose marble. Inside this religious construction you can admire many frescos and a series of chapels ornamented with beautiful paintings.

Going through an entrance hall you can reach the medieval church of Sant’Elena and the Canonici’ s cloister where, together with some archaeological excavations, you can see the original Romanesque structure with its frescos, its sculptures, its ancient wooden chorus and its main altar’s painting entitled “Madonna con Bambino” made by Felice Brusasorzi during the XIV century.

The Canonici’ s cloister
In the church of S. Giovanni in Fonte (also called Baptistery) you can see some frescos and one of the masterpieces of the medieval sculpture: the big monolithic rectangular baptismal font ornamented with some scenes of Jesus’ life.

Finally you can see the “Biblioteca Capitolare” (to visit it reservation is required) that during the Middle Age was one of the most important library in Europe.
