This royal palace was built during the XVIII century by Carlo di Borbone. This construction dominates all the city being characterized by a wonderful landscape on the Naples Gulf.

The Capodimonte Royal Palace
Since its construction, it was used both as a royal residence and as a museum. This Royal Palace wood, the beautiful sovereigns’ game reserve, is still today made up by 4000 varieties of age-old trees. In this park there are some buildings used for the court life (like the Casina della Regina and the Palazzina dei Principi), for royal productions (like which one of porcelain objects), for religious celebrations (like the Church of San Gennaro, and the Capuchins Retreat) and for agricultural and animal husbandry activities (like the pheasants cage, the barn called Cellaio and the cowshed). Another important place also is the Parco della Statuaria (the Statuaria Park) made up by fountains, boulevards and small villas. Throughout time many European intellectuals stayed in this palace like Winckelmann, Fragonard, Angelika Kauffmann, Canova, Goethe and Hackert.
