This imposing theatre is placed in the Ruggero Settimo Square. It was built during the XIX century in neoclassic style by the architect Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda. “Politeama” means theatre where you can watch performances belonging to different genres. This building has a semicircular structure with two series of Ionic and Corinthian colonnades. Its richly ornamented façade is dominated by a bronze sculpture. Its roof is covered by an iron dome. From November to May the Politeama theatre offers a reach Season of concerts and ballets. A part of this theatre is the seat of the Civic Gallery of Modern Art (Civica Galleria d’Arte Moderna) where you can admire Romanesque, neoclassic and romantic paintings and sculptures made in Sicily between the end of the XVIII century and the beginning of the XIX century.
